Tell us something about ‘The Artist-You’.
An ex-advertising professional, my eureka moment occurred after spending 8 long years in the industry. Turns out it was a better idea to lose weight chasing one’s dreams than by running after jobs one didn’t fancy (advertising folks read this as chasing art and copy for layouts). And that’s how Dash of Bling came about.
My fascination and love for ‘something different’ has always raised some eyebrows. From indigo tresses to glow in the dark nail paint, I’ve always fancied a quirk. And an after effect of jet-setting jobs ensured ‘people watching’ never got old. Observing a world full of myriad cultures, unique influences and exotic fashions – the dash of extra ordinary was just enough to add color to my canvas!
The other ‘job’ that you do?
When I am not immersed in the crazy world of hues and prints or traversing the locales of a new destination in search of inspiration, I am found on the couch with a good ol’ book and a bar of chocolate (putting an end to my weight loss attempts!)
What defines your art work?
In addition to the retro pop art style of designing of stuff that is functional, I try and encourage young artists to create and sell their illustrations and use these illustrations on different media (Bob Marley, Beatles, Jim Morrison etc are few examples of art done by a young aspiring artist which has been enhanced and worked on and introduced on lamps, clocks etc)
What categories of crafts/ art work do you do?
I am primarily into lifestyle and personal accessories.
What prompted you to take this up?
There was a clear dearth for exclusive gifts which had a personal touch which one could buy to gift to their loved ones. This was the one thing that prompted me to launch DOB. Today, DOB has done custom gifts ranging from lamps to ipad sleeves to even totes for clients and these are fairly easy on the pocket.
Your favorite work?
A cliché here would be to say that the entire range is close to my heart but my favorite is the ‘Zoom baby zoom’ range of lambretta wallets and clutches. Though, my range of ‘Darling Elie’ seems to do very well with my audience.
Other Artists who inspire you?
There are way too many to name but anything that’s not a run of the mill seems to be what manages to grab my attention.
How do you get more people to appreciate art?
Not truly relevant in my case. I bring to the table my understanding of art and it seems to vibe well with my people.
The most adventurous/ memorable moment about being an artist?
My first ever exhibition at Kitsch Mandi and having my first ever sale of my Drunk aasan coasters.
